Wellington Art Exhibition: Okonomi-Ya

“OKONOMI-YA” is a group exhibition held by a group of people who are originally from Japan or have Japanese heritage and all met in Wellington, NZ. This free exhibition will be open for one week.

The six artists have created different things in different styles even though their origins are the same.

This event is being held at Thistle Hall, 293 Cuba St, Te Aro, Wellington, this exhibition is open to all ages with free admission. “OKONOMI-YA” will be open everyday from Tuesday 1^st December until Sunday 6 Decemeber.

The artist include:

• Tomoyo Gibson: Tomoyo runs a shop Wrap16 to introduce the art of traditional bent wooden craft from her hometown Akita, the far north of Japan to New Zealand, the island of the far south. 
  
  

• Masako K Styles: Masako is a Japanese artist/illustrator based in Wellington. She has learnt digital art at college in San Diego and has continued to create digital art as well as traditional art since then. Her favourite media are ink pen, watercolour and digital and she particularly loves drawing plants and people.
  
  

• Atsuko McCallum: Atsuko is from Iwate, Japan. She has learnt doll-making in Japan and cartonnage when living in Belgium for four years. She loves incorporating Japanese culture in her artwork making kimono for her dolls, and using old kimono fabric for her boxes.
  
  

• Takako Masuyama: Takako is from Tokyo, Japan and moved to Wellington, New Zealand in 2011. She loves sewing, felt-work and creating jewellery. All of the origami earrings are folded by her with Japanese chiyogami paper which is thicker and softer than standard paper.
  
  

• Hiro Ogata: Hiro is originally from Japan living in this beautiful Aotearoa since 2004. He enjoys creating arts using nz beautiful and lush plants.
  
  

• Emy Oikawa: Emy is of Colombian and Japanese heritage and has been living in in New Zealand since 2015. In Colombia, she has discovered her passion for coloured clay. Ever since she has created various cultures and nature-inspired clay artworks and jewellery on her business called Eclo Art.
